Ingredients:

1 1/2 C. uncooked oats

1 1/2 tsp. salt

2 1/2 C. boiling water

1/4 to 1/3 C. packed brown sugar

1 Tbsp. butter

1 package yeast

1/4 C. warm water

4 to 4 1/2 C. flour

Directions:

Add oats and salt to boiling water, stir in sugar and butter; remove from heat. Set aside until cooled to 105 degrees. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in 1/4 C. warm water, add to cooled oat mixture. Stir in flour, enough to make a stiff dough. Turn onto board and knead until dough is smooth, adding just enough flour to keep the dough from sticking. Place in an oiled bowl and let rise one hour. Then punch down and shape into two large round balls and place on a greased pan, sprinkle with oats and let rise 1 hour. Bake at 375 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes.
