Involvement in the family farm: Seven generations of Garren Fields’ family have lived and farmed in rural Delaware County. In fact, his aunt lives on the homestead which was part of the family’s original Cherokee Nation allotment.

The family farm, 3F Farms, consists of around 300 acres located two miles east of Grove, Okla. The operation includes running commercial stocker cattle and hay.

Involvement in 4-H and FFA: A 2023 graduate of Grove High School, Fields began his adventure with youth agriculture as a member of 4-H. After taking a break to play sports, Fields joined the Grove FFA program his freshman year.

His Supervised Agricultural Experience involved showing and raising pigs, while his Career Development Experience included livestock judging for four years, electrical theory his senior year, and food science his sophomore and junior years. He also took part in the extemp competition his senior year.

“I love how broad FFA is, you can show pigs, give speeches – there’s so many things that are part of agriculture,” Garren said. “Everything involves agriculture in some shape or form.”

In April, Garren earned his State FFA Degree. He hopes to add an American FFA Degree to his honors

Current Livestock Operation: Thanks to his sister Emma’s influence, Garren found himself exhibiting and raising Berkshire and crossbred pigs.

By his junior year, he was raising his own stock, with his homegrown pigs winning awards at two different Oklahoma Youth Expos.

He also sells from his herd to local 4-H and FFA students wanting to get started in the industry.

“I like helping younger students learn how to be showmen,” Garren said. “FFA taught me how to deal with people and how to build friendships. It taught me to be confident in myself.”

Future Plans: Garren plans to attend Oklahoma State Institute of Technology in Okmulgee, Okla., to pursue a career as a high voltage lineman. He credits his time in FFA and at Northeast Tech in Afton for giving him the confidence to enter this career.

Beyond working in the electrical field, Garren plans to return home and run stock cattle as well, either on the family farm, or on his own place.
