Ingredients:

• 1 1/2 C onions, sliced

• 2 large cloves garlic

• 1/3 C salt

• 1 to 2 Quarts ice, 

crushed or cubed

• 4 1/2 C sugar

• 1 1/2 tsp turmeric

• 1 1/2 tsp celery seed

• 2 Tbsp mustard seed

• 3 C white vinegar

Directions: Wash cucumbers, drain;  slice into 1/8- to 1/4-inch slices. Add onions and garlic. Add salt, cover with ice. Mix thoroughly and allow to stand three hours. Drain and remove garlic. Combine sugar, spices and vinegar. Heat to a boil, add cucumbers and onion slices; heat an additional 5 minutes. Pack loosely into clean, hot pint jars, adjust lids, process in boiling water for a minimum of 5 minutes.  Turn upside down to seal. Yields: 7 Pints
