Glossip General Store

Owner:  Doug Glossip

History:  Glossip General Store, located in Highlandville, Christian County, Mo., is a fine example of a time honored family tradition. Doug Glossip’s family has been in the general store business since the 1940s. His father and grandfather both owned general stores in the Highlandville area and today, Doug owns and operates Glossip General Store, just off of Highway 160. Opened in 2010, the store sits just across the highway from where Doug’s grandfather’s store used to be. “This corner has been in the family awhile,” Doug chuckled.

Products:  “We have a little bit of everything,” said Doug. Glossip General Store sells groceries, hardware, automotive parts, Grasshopper fertilizer and Green Mountain grills. The general store keeps local farmers supplied with feed as well – they carry most types of livestock feed, square bales and bagged alfalfa, along with straw and wheat and rye seed when it is in season. Glossip General Store also sells fishing licenses and deer tags.

Best part of the job:  Doug is very fond of his general store. He loves when customers stop by the store to visit and said he also loves working with his two daughters, Jessy and Meghan, who both have jobs at the store.

Future plans:  In the future, Doug hopes to expand the general store, especially the storage area in the back, to create more room for feed and other products.
