Fairland Farm and Feed

Owners:  Doug and Julie Oakley
Location:  Fairland, Okla.

History:  Doug and Julie Oakley opened Fairland Farm and Feed in Fairland, Okla., on September 9, with the grand opening the following day. Doug says the reason behind the feed store was an obvious one. The Oakleys have animals themselves, and realizing they shouldn’t have to drive 30 or 40 miles to buy feed, they decided to bring the feed to their town. That was how the idea for a feed store in Fairland came about. “Location wise, it was a good setup for us,” Doug explained.

What will make you successful?
Keeping prices low is going to be the secret to their success. Doug elaborated, “We don’t want to make a bunch of money from one person, we want to make a little off of everybody.” Being a small town, word of mouth is going to be the best advertisement. Having grown up in the small town of Fairland, he knows many of the citizens, further allowing the business to be successful.

What is your goal?
Doug said that customer service is their number one goal. “If there is something a person is interested in and can’t find, just stop in and ask. I’m not saying we have it now, but we are trying to learn what people want, and we are more than happy to order stuff if we don’t have what they want.”
