Name:  Brody Morrison
Parents:  Ryan and Amber Morrison, siblings Abby and Bryce.
4-H Group:  Leslie Bulldogs, 4-H Program Assistant, Pam Cannada, Advisor, Brad Runsick

How are you involved in agriculture?
Brody’s 4-H Project involves pigs, market lambs and a poultry chain. “I work around the farm with Dad, he helps run a family cattle operation. I haul hay, help feed, whatever needs to be done that I can do. I have two Hampshire/York cross pigs, two Suffolk lambs, and 24 chickens. We get the chicks when they’re two days old and I raise them into laying hens. The reason I chose pigs as my main project is because they’re easy to show, and they are fun to train and work with.” The week of Aug. 2-6, Brody, with 25 other 4-H members, attended a 4-H camp, organized by Brad Runsick and Pam Cannada, funded by the Searcy County Quorum Court.

Who is your role model?
“Brad Runsick. He helps on my 4-H projects. We had our first Annual Midnight Hog Show, and I won several awards. We had the show at night to keep the animals from suffering heat stress.” In Class III, Brody took 1st place, Class V, 2nd place, and he won Junior Showmanship and Grand Championship. He said, “I received a plate as my Junior Showmanship award, with my name and what place I took, and for Grand Championship I won a belt buckle. This event was really fun and I look forward to participating again next year.”

What are your goals for the future?
“I want to continue raising show pigs. When I finish school, I want to become a fish biologist. I’d like to attend Duke University in North Carolina, they have very good science departments. If I don’t go to Duke, then I’ll try getting into Oregon State University.”
