What is your involvement in agriculture? I did not grow up on a large farm, but my family had a small cow/calf operation that introduced me to agriculture at a young age. My first show animal was a bottle calf that my grandma convinced my grandpa to let me keep. That experience helped spark my interest in agriculture and showing livestock.

Over the past eight years, I have shown several different species of livestock. For five of those years, I have also raised my own show lambs. Throughout my time showing, I have had the opportunity to exhibit goats, pigs, cattle and even market broilers. These experiences have helped shape my passion for agriculture while teaching me valuable lessons in responsibility, dedication and hard work.

What is your favorite part of being involved in agriculture/living on a farm? One of my favorite parts of agriculture is helping introduce younger generations to the industry. I believe it is important for young people to understand where their food comes from and the work that goes into producing it.

Agriculture is not always the easiest job, but it is an honest and necessary one. Teaching others about the realities of food production helps build respect for the farmers and ranchers who work hard every day to feed our communities.

What are your future plans? Do they involve agriculture in some way? My future plans include attending Oklahoma State University to pursue a degree in animal science on a pre-veterinary track. My goal is to become a veterinarian and eventually own my own emergency clinic that serves both small and large animals.
