What type of farming operation is your family involved in? “I have around 15 head of beef cattle and 15 head of dairy cattle. I got involved through my sister, who started showing when she was eight and I was two. I started showing when I was three, and I have been showing ever since. I’ve shown goats, sheep, chickens, and horses, and last year I started showing beef cattle. On the farm, I make sure all the cattle are fed and watered and that all the calves are taken care of. I’ve also completed the veterinary assistant certification and worked with multiple veterinarians in my area.”
What is your favorite part of being involved in agriculture/living on a farm? “My favorite part would be learning responsibility and respect for the animals and how they work. I’ve learned how to take care of them by seeing what they need.”
What are your future plans? Do they involve agriculture in some way? “My future plans are to potentially be a veterinarian radiologist or large animal tech. I started looking into being a veterinary radiologist when I was working at vet offices. I got to look at x-rays, but then I started working for a veterinarian who does pregnancy checks using ultrasound, which really piqued my interest.”
