What is your involvement in agriculture? When I joined FFA my freshmen year I started by competing in public speaking and cattle grading. I later did multiple CDE’s; Vet Science, Employment Skills and Agriculture Sales. I also wanted to get into livestock so I decided to try goats. I bought my first two does at the end of my freshmen year and we’ve been building up our herd since then. Although I am at college right now, I still help advertise our goats on our Facebook page, Rock Hill Boer Goats and help care for them when I am home.
What is your favorite part of being involved in agriculture? My favorite part of living on a farm and being involved in agriculture is knowing that what I am doing is making a difference in the world somehow. In FFA, I loved the idea of inspiring some of the younger kids to want to show an animal or participate in a competition. Also, I have always had a strong passion for caring for animals so owning my own and watching them get better every year gives me pride and give me a chance to learn things that I wouldn’t technically learn in a normal classroom. Even though it isn’t always fun, it is a very rewarding way of life.
What are your future plans? I am currently a freshman at the University of Arkansas. I am majoring in Agriculture Education and minoring in Animal Science and am planning on becoming an Agriculture Education teacher. My Ag teacher, Amanda Jones as well as other Ag teachers inspired me to follow this career path. I want to be someone that can inspire the next generation of agriculturists and advocate for this industry since it is so heavily needed.
