What is your involvement in agriculture? “I have been raised on a commercial cow/calf operation; it’s multi-generational and has been rewarding. Four years ago, one of my brother’s friends found a commercial Brahman heifer at the sale barn, and I fell in love with her. I got into the registered side of things and started exhibiting nationally. It opened so many doors, and I have met so many people. This year, I decided I would run for a position on the American Brahman Junior Association National Board and am now a director. Next year, I plan to run for national office.

“I have about 20 registered Brahman and some cattle in my family operation. For my registered cattle, I ask breeders like Glenn Cox what they think I should do, but I make all of my breeding selections. We do AI and ET. My first bred and owned animal that went into the show ring made it memorable. He made it to reserve in his division at the junior nationals this summer, won the Red Bull Division at the Cattlemen’s Congress, and was the Arkansas Junior Cattlemen’s Association Brahman Bull Champion for two years in a row. I take my cattle out and teach people about them, and I think in a couple of years, they will be considered just like any other cow in the state series.”

Future plans: “I judge livestock in 4-H and FFA, and that’s something I hope I can continue in college at the junior and senior college level.

“I can see me having a career in the cattle industry. Dr. Marion Harris has been our family vet and I have learned so much from him. I can see myself pursuing a career in veterinary medicine. When I’m older, I would like to judge shows.”
