The Heart of America Expo will be hosting their 11th Southwestern National Junior and Open Brown Swiss Show along with the 38th Heart of America Brown Swiss Sale on Oct. 21-22, in Stillwater, OK. Admission is free and all events are held at the Payne County Fairgrounds.

It is a non-profit event run entirely by volunteer help. Donations and lots of elbow grease are what make this event work. It is an All-American contest qualifying National show. The show has grown over the past 10 years. At last year’s show there were 155 head shown from 14 different as far away as California, Kentucky, Illinois and Wisconsin.

Youth participation is a huge part of this event. Junior exhibitors compete side by side with the adults and are awarded with their own prizes. Youth from 8 states presented 69 head last year. Missouri youth did very well at the 2015 show. Grant Groves, Billings, MO had Grand Champion of the Jr. Show while his sister, Bailey had Res. Grand Champion and Res. Jr. Champion. Bailey’s cow, Groves View Snickpack Tale, won the Total Performance Award which combines Type and Production. She produced 4-11 365 2x 32,060m 4.5% 1,441f 3.8% 1,207p.

A Showmanship Clinic will be held on Friday at 9 a.m. There are youth Showmanship classes on Saturday at 8 a.m. for 4 age groups, including a popular not to mention very cute ,Pee Wee division for kids under 9 years old. There will also be an Ice Cream Social, Pizza Party and a Junior Silent Auction fundraiser. All youth and parents are welcome to attend.

If you don’t have a Brown Swiss don’t worry! The 38th Heart of America Sale on Friday Oct. 21 at 11:00am can solve that. There will be 50 head selling from 100# per day milk cows, project age heifers, to this year’s September heifer calves. Any cattle purchased from the sale Friday can be shown on Saturday. There will be something for everyone.

Just to prove this is not just another cow show, the 6th Annual “Hotly” contested Chili Cook-off will be held on Thursday. There will also be Trade and Craft Booths in the Activity Building.
