Names:  Chance, Taylor, Hunter LaCour
4-H Group:  Carroll County 4-H, advisor Patty LaCour
Parents:  Patty and John LaCour

How are you involved in agriculture?
Taylor, Hunter and Chance LaCour have been in 4-H since they were each five years old.  Taylor is now 14, Hunter is 12 and Chance is 17. Each of the three kids began showing lambs. Currently, Taylor has two heifers, Hunter has one and Chance has two lambs. Chance was also able to purchase some heifers through a youth loan program that he plans to sell this fall. Taylor shows registered black Angus cattle. Hunter and Taylor said they prefer showing cattle, while Chance said he prefers lambs. The children are also active on their parent’s registered Angus farm.

What do you enjoy the most within the program?
Chance said he enjoys showing lambs. Taylor added, “It is more than just about showing animals, it is meeting new people and having lots of new experiences.” She has won state level awards for essays and is also a member of the Arkansas Angus Association. Taylor is also currently the state princess within the association.

How have you done at shows?
Ribbons and awards are plentiful for each of the LaCour children. Chance has received a reserve champion designation, and Hunter got reserve commercial at state. Chance went to state with his lamb. “Only 12 head are purchased at the state competition,” he explained. Chance’s lamb was the sixth or seventh lamb purchased. His lamb was the first ever sold from Carroll County. Taylor was the youngest person to have shown a bull at the National Western Livestock Show in Denver, Colo. She was the only child showing against a group of men. John and Patty LaCour recalled people were taking pictures at the sight of their small daughter in a show ring full of large animals and men.
