Classic Trailer

Owners:  Mark and Louise Wheeler
Location:  1625 N. West Bypass, Springfield, Mo.

Company History:  Mark and his wife, Louise, founded Classic Trailer in 1983. They began by repairing trailers and sandblasting. While their location hasn’t changed over the years, what they offer their customers has improved.

Products and Services:  Today Classic Trailer still repairs trailers, but they also build custom truck beds and offer towing accessories. “We’re still sandblasting, too,” Mark said, “but we’ve begun soda blasting as well. Soda blasting was made for the aircraft industry. We can sodablast an empty pop can and not hurt it. We can take paint off glass, we do mold and soot removal.”

Do you have a business philosophy?
"We do it all on the Godly principles. Both my boys have worked here, my wife is still part-time and manages the books, and I have two nephews that work for me.” Mark’s son Isaac is still involved with the company, and both of his sons worked for him during high school and college.

Do you have a target market?
“We have a wide variety. We do repairs for farmers and contractors. But with the sandblasting we can do anything and everything. We’ve done industrial work like the Federal Post Office and Federal Courthouse and Glass Hall (at Missouri State) in Springfield. We exposed the aggregate and gave it that river rock look. We etch concrete to give it different looks. We can do all kinds of trailer, goosenecks and fifth wheel repairs also.”

How do you stay ahead of the competition?
“By being the best there was. We’re known for knowing what we’re doing, where other people don’t.”
