Ogle Farms is Committed to Innovation in the Industry
NEVADA, MO. – Ogle Farms, LLC is a family-run cattle operation based in Nevada, MO. Justin and Charity Ogle, 45 and 43, respectively, manage the farm with their three children, Avery, Lawson, and Brooks.
Charity hails from a family of row crop and cattle farmers in Sheldon, MO, and studied at Missouri State University, where she graduated with a degree in animal science. She has years of experience in the agriculture industry, and today, she works in dual roles: a stay-at-home mom managing the farm and an embryology lab technician with FertiGen, a reproductive technology facility located in Nevada, MO.
Justin spent his early years on a family farm, but in the 1980s, his parents sold their land and moved to Nevada, MO. He currently serves as the president and part-owner of the company Record Harvest, where he has been for 25 years.
Record Harvest began as a small precision agriculture business based on the family farm. Today, it has locations in Nevada, MO, and Hillsboro, KS, as well as a team of 17 employees focusing on precision agriculture, crop nutrition, small and large seeds, and equipment. It operates alongside M&O Farms, LLC, which manages over 4,500 acres owned and rented in a corn/wheat double crop bean rotation.
Together, the Ogles have built their operation into a thriving enterprise that includes a commercial Angus herd and a partnership with 3/0 Cattle Co., a registered Black Angus operation.
“Aside from the day-to-day farming and cattle operation, our family stays very busy showing livestock competitively at the local, state, and national levels,” Justin said.
The Ogles’ commercial cattle operation consists of 20 Angus cows grazed on 60 acres of fescue. The herd’s breeding program relies on natural cover and sourcing bulls with traits such as calving ease, ribeye, marbling, and a strong phenotype. The family plans to expand the commercial herd and transition to Red Angus genetics over the next several years.
Through their partnership with 3/0 Cattle Co., the Ogles help manage 80 registered black Angus cows. 3/0, which uses both AI and ET, offers elite bulls, embryos, and heifers, catering to breeders across the Midwest.
Lawson Ogle, a high school freshman, is already making his mark in the industry. Inspired by mentors in the Red Angus community, he established LawDawg Cattle Co., which focuses on seedstock production.
“Lawson’s goal is to produce purebred Red Angus cattle that excel inside and outside the show ring,” Justin said.
The Ogles prioritize nutrition and herd health. Their cattle graze fescue and receive hay, including tested native prairie and spring forages such as cereal rye and winter oats.
All bulls are tested before breeding season, and all cattle are vaccinated in spring and fall.
“All commercial cattle are on a standard biannual vaccination schedule,” Justin noted.
Technology serves an important function in the operation. Heat Seeker monitors estrus in the 3/0 herd, and the family uses CattleMax software for data tracking. In addition, their relationship with FertiGen enables them to offer bovine embryo services and facility tours.
As the Ogles plan for the future, they aim to expand their herd, support their children’s agricultural pursuits, and strengthen their partnerships within the industry.
“Over the next several years, we plan to evolve our commercial herd to a Red Angus herd and provide a recipient herd for 3/0 Cattle Co. and FertiGen clients,” Justin shared.
Whether attending events like the Cattlemen’s Congress or mentoring the next generation, the Ogles remain committed to fostering growth and innovation in agriculture.
