Hometown: Welch, Okla.

County: Craig

Family Members: Son, Wesley Peterson

Off the Farm: I have a job in the Mortgage Loan industry as a Compliance Analyst. I also just recently started making my own turquoise jewelry which you can find at Susie’s Thrift and Gift in Miami, Ok. My mother-in-law Niki Peterson owns Susie’s and so graciously let me sell my pieces there. My husband Justin is a full time rancher.

On the Farm: My husband buys cattle ranging from starting cattle as bawling calves and yearlings to calving out heifers. He also likes to buy some horses he will use to ranch on and then sell. His father and stepmom, Dale and Niki Peterson own the Welch Stockyards so he has grown up around cattle and ranching has always been all he knows. Justin bought 130 acres in Welch when he was 18 and we started out living together in a small, tiny home made from a shipping container. We have now built a barndominium, arena, covered working cattle pens and a horse barn facility in the last 4 years.  Justin works long endless hours and has the biggest work ethic I have ever seen. I am a very proud wife and thankful he has provided so much for our family!

What do you enjoy most about living on a farm? With a full time job and starting a new jewelry business I do not help as much on the ranch side of things. I grew up riding horses and barrel racing, so I was very involved in the rodeo world whereas Justin is very involved in the ranching world. Justin loves being outside, you will never see him sitting around in the house. It can be -20 degrees and he still gets up every morning and heads out the door with no complaints. He has built everything he owns so there is a lot of pride in that and I think he loves that part the most. He has worked hard and has a lot to show for it so that keeps him going.
