What is your involvement in agriculture? I live on a small farm where we have chickens, horses, pigs and goats. My family has always been involved in agriculture one way or another. My mom showed sheep growing up. My older cousins, Cutter and Clay McCoin, showed pigs, and I would attend their shows to watch them compete. I knew then if I ever had the opportunity to show, I definitely wanted to show pigs! My cousins purchased their pigs from Nick Hofschulte, and he also helped them with their pigs at the fair. After he saw how much I liked the pigs and was so interested and curious about showing them, he said he would help me the next year if I wanted to start showing. He essentially took me under his wing and has been helping me ever since; I have been extremely thankful for his guidance and help.
What is your favorite part of being involved in agriculture? It is hard to mention just one favorite part about being involved in agriculture. I have really enjoyed the FFA speaking competitions; they teach you so much. I love working with my animals and showing them at competitions. One of my favorite things is the agriculture environment, such as the county fair, where I’ve experienced the camaraderie between everyone, including the lifelong friendships/relationships I have formed. I’ve also enjoyed the judging and animal fitting competitions, as well as the showmanship round robin, to name a few. I also really enjoy helping younger kids learn how to show.
What are your future plans? My future plans include becoming an ultrasound technician, and I also hope to continue living on a farm of my own.
