In Town: “I am a ready-mix concrete delivery driver for SRM Concrete with 20 years’ experience in the industry.”
In the Country: “I have a 30 head cow/calf operation on 120 acres owned and 60 acres hay ground rented. I raise Brangus and Brangus Super Baldie cattle on my farm, ‘Cypress Bayou Cattle Co.’ The top one-third of my heifers are kept for replacement heifers in my herd for increasing my cow numbers. The rest of the calves are marketed through the local locker plant with existing customers. My number one goal is to breed better cattle with future goals of selling top quality replacement heifers straight off my farm.”
What do you enjoy about living on the farm? “I really enjoy seeing my calves born and watching them grow and develop, especially the heifers. Nothing gives myself more pride and satisfaction than raising my replacement heifers, breeding them at 24 months and calving at 33 months with absolutely no problems calving! That’s my pride and joy right there. Breeding heifers at 24 months was instilled into me at a very young age by my Grandfather Mr. Ed Haymes.”
“My second pride and joy on my farm is building immaculate, text book, picture perfect barb wire fences with Red Brand 12-1/2 gauge 4pt. barb wire. Red Brand 12-1/2 gauge barb wire was the only brand of barb wire my Grandfather would use. That was instilled in me at an early age as well and is still used today on Cypress Bayou Cattle Co.”
