Owner: Melissa Jacobs
Location: Macomb, Missouri
History: “I have been trimming my own goats’ hooves for years and friends would always ask me to help trim theirs. In 2019 I decided to start my own hoof trimming business and go mobile. My husband, Brian, refabricated a used small animal working chute and ramp and built a running gear trailer to pull behind my jeep.”
Services Offered: “I offer hoof trimming for sheep and goats mostly in Southern Missouri, but I do travel up to Nevada, Mo. and surrounding areas and sometimes into Kansas. I will also go to other areas depending on the herd size and location.”
“Hoof trimming is the main service that is offered. We do allow the clients to treat, deworm and tag, along with any other process that is needed on the animal while we have the animal in the chute. It’s easier to treat them in the chute than trying to hold them still.”
Future Plans: “My plan is to keep doing this as long as God will allow me to do it. I love the animals and I love meeting new people.”
Philosophy: “Treat all the animals with respect and doing the best I can to make their feet feel good so they can live a productive, happy life for their owner. I have clients with anywhere from 2 animals to 250 animals. Some days are easy, and some days are rough. It takes a lot of patience sometimes when the animals don’t want to cooperate, but we just work through it and get it done. When I leave a farm, I want the animals to have Happy Hooves and happy owners.”
