In Town: I am a project accountant for Miami Federal with Miami Nation Enterprises. We are the enterprise arm of the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma (Miami Nation). As a Project Accountant, I support federal contracting projects in the full accounting, finance, and compliance spectrum. This position supports Tribally owned 8(a) companies in accounting and finance support.

In the Country: We have always lived in a rural setting but in August of 2024 we purchased a house with acreage. We have two horses that we ride around the property. One of our mares, “Ruby” was the 2023 Show-Me AHCA High Point horse who was ridden and trained by Steven Dyer. Steve was instrumental in getting our daughter started with horses and we miss him daily!

We also have a few head of registered Beefmaster cattle that Harper takes to shows locally and nationally. Harper hopes to be able to keep back and show the heifers she raises and consign the bull calves to Beefmaster sales. Since we do not have enough acreage to keep a bull, Harpers aunt helps her with breeding by utilizing Artificial Insemination (AI) and natural service. We send the females to her aunts, and she synchronizes them for AI or natural service to a bull. Her and Harper look over the different options for bulls and they decide which ones will be the best compliment for her cows. Harper is also showing her first bred-and-owned bull this year who is out of her first show heifer, Foxy.

My favorite thing about living in the country is the peace and quiet, privacy, connection to nature and slower pace of life. Country living comes with the advantage of more space, which allows us the opportunity to raise our cattle and horses. We also enjoy the amazing sunrises and sunsets our new property has blessed us with!
