History: Nelson Feed and Seed has been a family business since 1933.

“My great-grandpa (Verner Nelson) opened the store,” manager Dexer Nelson said. “When he bought the building, he called it Nelson Feed and Produce, then in 1961, my grandpa (Max Nelson) bought it and changed it to Nelson Feed and Seed.”

Dexter added that six generations of the Nelson family, which came to the are in 1866, have been involved with the business.

Products and Services: “Of course, we have feed and seed,” Dexter said. “We also have garden supplies, farming supplies, pet supplies, vet supplies, and small engines like chainsaws, weed eaters and leaf blowers.”

Nelson Feed and Seed primarily sources livestock feeds from Big V Feeds in McAlester, Okla.

“My great-grandpa started working with them when he opened the store,” Dexter said. “They opened in 1906, so they have a little head start on us.”

Nelson Feed and Seed carries feed for all species of livestock from Big V.

“We also have minerals from different sources, and dealers,” Dexter said. “We also have bulk cattle cubes, and so some delivery.”

Animal health supplies, including vaccines for cattle, sheep, goats and horses, and dewormers can also be found at the Eufaula, Okla., business.

Seed is available in bag and bulk.

“We can do an ounce to a ton,” Dexter said of seed sales.

Customers can also purchase bagged fertilizer, garden herbicides and pesticides.

Chainsaws and weed eaters are big sellers for the company, which has partnered with MCulloch since 1962.

Wildlife feed, pet care and equine items, hay and bedding supplies can also be found at Nelson Feed & Seed.

Dexter said while they serve all farmers and ranchers, most of their customers are smaller producers.
