Ingredients:
2 1/2 C sourdough starter
2 1/2 C buttermilk
2 1/2 C flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
2 Tbsp sugar
3/4 C shortening
Directions:
Mix sourdough starter, buttermilk and flour thoroughly. In a separate bowl combine 2 tsp baking powder, baking soda and sugar. Mix to combine. Cut in 3/4 cup shortening. Make a well in in the flour, add sourdough and mix well. Dough should be just dry enough to handle. Add flour to hands and pat out to about 3/4 inch thick. Add oil to preheated oven, cut biscuits with a biscuit cutter, dip in oil and turn over to coat both sides. Crowd into a 14-inch Dutch oven. Should make 28-30 biscuits. Lid needs preheating also.
