OSU – Multispectral Laboratories LLC (UML) has signed an agreement with Cherokee Nation Research Laboratories (CNRL) to provide business and administrative services as well as management personnel to support the operations.

UML is a national center of innovative excellence that operates laboratories and field facilities focused on research and development, testing, evaluation, training and implementation of defense, homeland security and intelligence community programs.

“The UML contributes to the security and safety of our country through what can only be characterized as groundbreaking scientific and technological research across several fields of study,” said Bob Scott, executive director of the UML. “The support services the CNRL will provide reflect the commitment we have to effective management of the ongoing research underway at UML.”

CNRL brings added management and operational infrastructure to support UML’s expanding initiatives in the defense and homeland security sectors, including notable scientific research and development, unmanned aerial systems programs, and the integration of intelligence capabilities into application platforms and architectures.

As part of the Cherokee Nation Businesses security and defense division, CNRL provides comprehensive services and core competencies in applied science, engineering and design, systems integration and testing, rapid prototyping, and precision manufacturing to build upon UML’s current capabilities.

“Our Cherokee Nation-owned security, defense, logistic and support businesses enjoy a long history of providing valuable services to federal agencies and commercial clients, such as the UML spearheading innovative research and development,” said Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Bill John Baker. “We are honored to support the extraordinary science and research performed at UML, and look forward to a long, beneficial and productive working relationship.”

“CNRL has the depth and breadth of knowledge to promptly deliver operational and management support to drive the UML’s growing presence in the global defense sector while ensuring our government contract service business is managed in a responsible manner,” Scott noted. “Cherokee Nation Businesses is well known and respected by the United States Defense Department and the Department of Homeland Security, two organizations that work with UML on a number of critical initiatives. We are confident our relationship with the CNRL will result in future opportunities to pursue additional special missions and projects for the U.S. government.”

“UML has developed a solid reputation over the past several years for its expertise in a number of scientific endeavors related to sensor technology,” said Russell Claybrook, president of CNRL. “One example is UML’s advancement in unmanned vehicles through its relationship with Oklahoma State University.”

“The program’s vision and success have put Oklahoma in a solid position to be a leader in this emerging new sector of aerospace,” said Shawn Slaton, chief executive officer of Cherokee Nation Businesses. “We are pleased to support UML, and we share their enthusiasm for the future.”
