The Oklahoma State University/A&M Board of Regents today approved a request for the hiring of a consultant to assist in the preparation of a facilities plan for the Edmon Low Library and associated buildings.

Studio Architecture of Oklahoma City, with specialized library consultant PGAV of Kansas City as the sub-consultant, will be hired through the on-call architect process.  The team of consultants is already working to develop designs for the Library Storage Facility, being constructed at Hall of Fame and McDonald in Stillwater.  This new facility will free up more space in the library for other uses and help streamline the function of the library.

The consultant will help develop an efficient plan for the use and layout of the library, the use and development of the library’s storage facility and the future use of the Library Annex.  The consultant is needed because of the change in how students and faculty are using the library.

Library officials say the building’s purpose is evolving into a place for computerized research, individual and group study and interactive instruction.  While books and documents will always remain important to access, most of today’s library users prefer electronic delivery of materials.
