Donna Burnett
In Town: “I work in Conway, Ark., for Conway Adult Education helping people earn their GED diplomas. I’ve been there 14 years and love working with adults and troubled youth who have a goal to improve their lives. I knock down barriers to help them achieve those goals. I do the education assessments and practice tests as well as system data entry for the state.”
“I shop in Conway mostly but support Greenbrier, Ark., whenever possible.”
In the Country: “We own and work 150 acres in Greenbrier. We have a registered Shorthorn herd of about 20 momma cows and a cleanup bull because we AI. We show the cows and sell breeding stock locally, across the state and also across state lines. We love Shorthorns because calving is a surprise package. You never know what color you’re going to get. They are my big babies.”
“We also raise Champagne D’Argent rabbits which I both show and sell. Even though my son Hunter is at the U of A in Fayetteville, Ark., he still shows at the Arkansas State Fair and has shown in Kentucky, Tennessee and Texas.”
Future Plans: “My future goal is to increase my herd and compete on the national level with my cows and rabbits. Since our land has been in the family for 100 years and the land around us all is owned by another local family, expansion near our place is probably not feasible. On the other hand renting some land near us may be possible.”
“Like most mothers, once my son gets his education finished and a career established, I look forward to the possibility of grandchildren.”
