Susan and Benny Scarberry

In Town:  In 1988, Susan Scarberry started the Scarberry Agency in Clinton, Ark., and primarily does health care insurance for employer groups, covering mainly the state of Arkansas. Susan really likes what she does and foresees the potential for new individual customers in, and out of Arkansas with the new health reform deadline of 2014.
Benny worked for a pipeline company until about a year and a half ago when he semi-retired, and has since gotten his insurance license and now works part-time with Susan in the office.

In the Country:  Benny and Susan live on a 100-acre ranch in Van Buren County, where they have downsized from 50 horses to 10. In the past they were artificially breeding 30 to 40 mares a year, this was a lot of hard work but not without its rewards. “It’s amazing how the Internet has changed the world of buying and selling,” said Susan. The Internet gave them an outlet to post photos of their horses available to buyers who purchased their horses from all over the United States.
Of the 10 horses they currently have, three of them are Susan’s cutting horses. She has made all three of the finals at Fort Worth, Texas, at the National Cutting Horse Association Futurity, Super Stakes and Summer Spectacular, which is a bit unusual. “She has done very well, it takes years to learn to ride good enough,” said Benny, referring to the NHCA finals. Susan said she couldn’t do it without Benny; he has coached and helped her all the way. Benny has been a roper and was one of the original racers at the chuckwagon races in Clinton since the inception and continues to help. They have been married 32 years and are best friends.
