Has anyone ever touched your life in a positive life changing way? Is it possible to repay them? Or maybe the only way to do so is pay-it forward?
There are many people that I have met in my relatively short life that have managed to do just that; too many people to write about in one column, anyway. Maybe over time I can mention them all.
But I encourage you to take a moment and think about the irreplaceable people in your life as you read the following story.
This isn’t a story about me, though. A few months back I got a very touching and unusual request from a reader in Arizona.
The letter read:
“Dear Ozarks Farm & Neighbor,
My friend, Mr. Darrell Biswell, has been making it possible for me to receive Ozarks Farm & Neighbor newspaper for the past few years and I have really enjoyed reading it.
God brought Darrell into my life about seven years ago and he has been an extreme blessing to me.”
The letter went on to explain that Mr. Biswell’s birthday is in May and the author of the letter, Mr. William E. Morehead, wanted to show his appreciation for Mr. Biswell by sharing a poem he wrote.
“There is a story, that most folk’s know well, about a cowpoke named Darrell, along the Arkansas trail.
Darrell’s a tall drink of water, about six foot five, kind of slim and lanky at 225. He rode a horse named Thunder, but not all that much, ‘cause Thunder did not go for that kind of stuff.
Although Darrell was on the ground much more than he rode, Old Thunder would follow him wherever he goes.”
“Happy Birthday Darrell,” from your friend, William.
I know this isn’t the usual content for my column but I couldn’t help but be touched by the gesture from one friend to another. I encourage you to do something just as sincere for that life changing someone in your life.
It’s amazing how the little things in life can mean so much. We should all learn to appreciate the little things. Best wishes,
