Livestock producers understand the role and importance of forage production when it comes to their bottom line.  So does the Missouri Livestock Symposium, Dec. 3-4 in Kirksville.

Forage section speakers include USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service  state grassland conservationist Doug Peterson, who will talk on “Improving Soil Productivity with High Stock Density Grazing.”  Peterson will also team up with forage and beef producer Ben Coleman as they share “Practical Experiences with High Stock Density Grazing.”  Also on the program is David Davis of the University of Missouri’s Forage Systems Research Center, who will share things learned at the center related to forages and beef production.  Garry Lacefield of the University of Kentucky will speak on “Critical Issues Facing Forages” and USDA/NRCS grasslands specialist John Turner will talk on “Reducing Feed Costs with Grazing Management.”

The symposium also will feature programs on beef, stock dogs, horses, sheep, meat goats and various other interesting topics. There will be a free evening meal on Friday, Dec. 3, and a free governor’s-style luncheon on Saturday, Dec. 4. Becky Blackaby (www.beckyblackaby.com) will close the program Saturday evening with a concert at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the concert can be purchased by calling 660-665-9866.
