Darren Myers

In Town:  Darren is a District Sales Representative for Harry Cooper Supply in Springfield, Mo. “I started work for Harry Cooper 27 years ago after my uncle suggested I apply,” said Darren. “The rest is history.” Darren was raised on a beef cattle operation in Miller and after marrying his wife Annie decided that he wanted to have a farm of his own. He started working in the Harry Cooper warehouse in Springfield and worked his way up through the business. He has served plumbing and retail businesses as an outside salesman for the past nine years. “My favorite part of the job is getting out and meeting my customers. I cover Seymour to Alton, including in and around West Plains and a portion of the north western part of southwest Missouri,” he said.

In the Country:  At the farm Darren can be found checking cattle, in the hay field with his son Chandler or doing general farm duties. The Myers family runs an 82-acre commercial Angus cow-calf operation outside of Mt. Vernon, Mo. “Farming is my relaxation and break from my job,” he said. “It doesn’t matter how crazy the office gets, I always have the farm to retreat to and forget about sales calls and the day to day office work.”

How do you run your farm and manage your job?
Darren says that it’s trying at times managing his farm, family and sales position.  “It’s a juggling act working full-time and trying to farm, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Chandler helps me out in the hay field and working cattle when I’m out of town.” Darren travels four days a week and is in the office every Friday. “Sometimes I have to let more on the farm go, but my family is the most important and I don’t want to look back someday and think of how much I missed out on. There’s been many nights that the cattle get fed in the dark,” smiled Darren.
