In Town: I am the owner and veterinarian at Patterson Animal Hospital in Stillwell, Ok. Our clinic is a mixed animal clinic that has been at this location in my hometown since my graduation in May of 2000 from Oklahoma State University. My husband and my 4 daughters have all been employed at the family business in some form or fashion over the years. We see a mix of large and small animals with a special interest in goats.
In the Country: We were able to purchase a farm and then later add to it for a total of nearly 300 acres at this time. We built a home on our farmland and are a diversified operation. We started our operation with a few beef cattle and meat goats. We currently raise registered Beefmaster beef cattle, registered Milking Shorthorn, Brown Swiss and Lineback dairy cattle and registered dairy goats. We show locally and nationally as well as sell seed stock to other families or youth wanting to start their journey into livestock. Our goal is to continue to improve the quality of the registered breeds we have and continue to make them affordable to youth in our area and surrounding communities.
What do you enjoy most about being a farmer/rancher? I have a passion for genetics and reproductive technology. We have been able to advance all of our herds at an increased rate due to the use of artificial insemination and reproductive advancements. I enjoy watching each generation of our herds improve and selecting the best steps in the future for further improvements.
My equal passion would be watching my daughters grown in both animal care and management and showmanship skills. We have competed at all levels and I have been blessed to watch them achieve top levels of awards both in and out of the showring with projects that were bred and raised by our farm and their hard work.
