Ingredients:

1 C sugar

1/2 C shortening

1 C raisins cooked and hot in water

1 C hot raisin juice

1/2 Tbsp baking soda

1 egg

1/4 tsp salt

1 Tbsp baking powder

1 Tbsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp nutmeg

1/4 tsp cloves

1/2 to 1 C walnuts or pecans

1 1/2 C flour

Directions:

Mix all together and bake 350 degrees for 1 hour. To make this into a fruit cake, double the recipe and add two 1-pound cartons of candied fruit mix. This was my mother’s favorite recipe for Christmas fruitcake.
