MOBERLY, Mo. – University of Missouri Extension will offer a two-session program in January for public board members.
“The public demands more of its public servants all of the time, and this program is designed to help board members and employees better understand their roles and responsibilities,” said MU Extension agribusiness specialist Joe Koenen.
The sessions are Jan. 19 and Jan. 21, 6-9 p.m., in Unionville, Mexico, Chillicothe, Brookfield and Memphis.
The $50 fee covers two sessions, training materials and two meals. The sessions will be broadcast remotely to each site but attendees can ask speakers questions and make comments.
Koenen and longtime MU Extension county council coordinator Tony DeLong teach the class.
They will cover the Missouri Sunshine Law and how it pertains to public meetings. DeLong and Koenen will discuss procedures for closed meetings, personnel policies, labor standards, conflicts of interest and addressing Sunshine Law requests from individuals and the media.
They also will review parliamentary procedure, Robert’s Rules of Order, budgets, financial statements and audits.
Additionally, they will talk about handling the public’s money.
