How are you involved in agriculture?
“I have 10 head of cattle of my own, four that are registered Limousin, six are commercial cows. Two of my registered cows have calves. I show my registered cows at the Searcy County Fair. And I have 4-H chickens that lay enough eggs for our use. My parents have seven commercial hogs, and I do the feeding and watering every day for all the animals. This summer I spent a week as a counselor at an environmental camp, with 32 kids ages Kindergarten- through 7th grade.”
What lessons do you learn from your work?
“Responsibility and leadership, and how to be a role model to younger students. Every year I spend 4-H day at the Arkansas State Fair where I can see how others are involved in agriculture, and get ideas to make my own projects better.”
What are some of your goals for the future?
“I plan to attend the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where I would like to play football for the Razorbacks. I plan to major in agriculture; and someday be a cattleman. In 2006 I served as Vice-President on the Searcy County 4-H Council and I’m planning to run for President this year. I’m aiming for a winning record book, which would allow me to get a scholarship. So far, out of seven record books, six of mine were winners.”
Who is your role model?
“Gayle Feese is my 4-H leader. She gives me good advice on my projects and schedules events all year long that will benefit me in the future.”
What would you like to tell the readers about yourself?
“I’ve been in 4-H for seven years and an FFA member for two years. I’m on the Marshall Bobcat football team. I play offensive and defensive tackle. This is my fourth year to play.”
