Hometown: Muskogee, Okla.

County: Muskogee

Family Members: Husband, Seth; Daughters, Dakota and Saige

In Town: My husband and I both work for the department of Veteran Affairs. I work in the education department by processing education benefits for the veterans, service members and dependents.

In the County: We mainly raise registered show cattle. We have Maine Anjou, full size Hereford, Mini Herefords, percentage Simmental, Red Angus composite and Chianina. Our goal is to raise our own show calves for our girls. We also feed out 7-10 feeders steers a year and sell them for beef to local customers. We recently bought 85 acres and added 10 commercial cows and a bull. We plan to raise more feeder steers to provide beef to the families who buy from us. We started our little operation on 5 acres and we have grown since then. Our goal is to buy more land and by the time we retire we want to get to around 150 head or more.

I enjoy watching my girls learn how to take care of and respect the cattle. They love showing and they love helping. It’s all about teaching the girls that hard work pays off. Yes, sometimes things happen that are out of our control, but they learn how to learn from it and move on. I love watching the baby calves run and play and grow. The girls call them baby bumper cars when they run with their tails in the air! For me, it’s all about raising my girls right, teaching them where their food comes from and hoping and praying with our guidance they develop a good work ethic along the way.
