Family: Significant other Cody Whittle, and stepdaughters Caidyn and Hollee
History: Sami Johnson’s life revolves around horses.
“When I started in the horse industry, it was Bit to Bit Horsemanship,” Sami explained. “I was doing boarding, training, lessons, showing; I was on the performance side of things. I was teaching at a facility in Camdenton, and I had a string of three or four lesson horses that I was having a hard time keeping comfortable with their job demand.”
When COVID hit, Sami had time off and began exploring ways she could help her horses.
“I started with equine kinesiology taping and had taken a brief course and the leading educator for equine kinesiology taping, Ciara Crawford of Sozo Equine, lives in Fair Grove, Mo., and I had run across her in a Facebook ad and took some classes.”
Using her horse for case studies, Sami began with the kinesiology taping, but she soon learned there were many other ways to help her equine friends.
“I started to invest in other classes, like massage, fascia blading, cupping, and I invested in a PEMF machine,” Sami said.
Sami eventually re-branded Bit to Bit Horsemanship to Bit to Bit Equine.
Services: Sami is a full-time equine therapist, providing treatment to equine to relieve pain and inflammation.
“I can do massage, PEMF, red light therapy, cold laser therapy kinesiology taping, fascia blading, cupping, acupressure and Craniosacral therapy ,” she said.
“The thing I bring to the table is finding where the muscle imbalances are, how we can adjust our management or training programs to accommodate those imbalances. The biggest thing with all of these therapies is that we are improving blood circulation to areas that are less prioritized, breaking inflammation and breaking the pain cycle.”
As Sami continues her career, which takes her on the road four days a week, reaching as far as Kansas City, St. Louis and Tulsa, Okla., but she does some rehabs at her own barn.
Sami said she continues to learning more and more the industry and the ever-changing technology, and eliminating an animal’s pain is the goal of Bit to Bit Equine.
Sami also offers PEMF and massage services to show cattle.
“The Highlands are my favorites,” Sami said. “I love to pet their hair.”
