History: Greg and Vicki Holmes started Holmes Farm Supply in 1982.
“It was something I wanted to try,” Greg said. “We had our farm and were running a few head of beef cattle at the time and decided to get into the feed business. It was kind of slow at the start, but it’s done well for us. We have a really good community and a lot of community support.”
Products and Services: Holmes Farm Supply offers a wide selection of livestock feeds and supplements for cattle, sheep, pigs, horses, goats and poultry, with the prime supplier being ADM. All feed is currently bagged, but bulk is available from ADM’s Springfield, Mo., mill.
Livestock feed, however, is only part of the offerings at Holmes Farm Supply.
“We have farm equipment parts and are expanding a little more into the hardware line,” Greg explained. “We have hydraulic hoses, some filters, fluids, gates, panels, feeders and other items.
“We try to keep things stocked. We offer some backyard poultry supplies and vet supplies.”
Customers can also find seasonal plants, a wide selection of garden items, a few tools and other supplies farmers and ranchers might need, even chore boots.
“We want to get customers what they need,” Greg said.
For the pet owner, Holmes Farm Supply offers customers Tuffy’s Premium, Nutrisource, Value-Pack and selected Diamond dog foods.
Holmes Farm Supply is a family operation, with son Cody also working at the store.
Future plans: Greg said they are currently expanding their store to offer customers “a little more variety” of the products they now offer.
“If I had it to do all over again, I probably would have expanded faster and offered a wider variety early on,” Greg said. “We have grown slowly over the years, growing as we could.”
