Student editors kept busy all summer preparing for an entirely new production cycle for the campus’s 120-year old newspaper.

Now, they’re excited to unveil all that hard work.

The Daily O’Collegian is now simply the O’Colly, which will print three days a week while transitioning to a 24/7 digital presence.

The change means print reporters and editors will devote greater energy to the most meaningful issues and fascinating people at OSU. Meanwhile, the O’Colly’s team of digital journalists is working to meet students where they consume information: online, on their phones and through social media.

The change allows greater flexibility for advertisers and a better audience experience.

The changes include:

·      Monday/Wednesday/Friday print publication with distribution across campus and around town, as well as front-door delivery to many Res Life students.

·      A change from a long broadsheet paper to the easier-to-handle tabloid format.

·      An enhanced and improved ocolly.com.

·      A more accessible and user-friendly mobile site.

·      Greater engagement through social media such as Facebook (search O’Colly) and Twitter (@ocolly).

·      Expanded options for advertisers to better meet their markets, including online and social media opportunities.

·      A simplified advertising price structure.

“This change enables us to produce and distribute news about campus in a more timely manner while continuing to reach our long-time traditional readers in a manner they prefer,” said general manager Ray Catalino.

O’Colly adviser Barbara Allen said that these adjustments will better prepare student journalists for a changing media landscape.

“We think these changes are going to mean graduates who are better prepared for the journalism workforce and an audience that’s going to be very happy with our product,” she said.

Allen said O’Colly students will be triple threats in writing, digital and social media.
