COLUMBIA, Mo.– Sessions on cover crops are on the program of this year’s University of Missouri Crop Management Conference, Dec. 17-18 at the Holiday Inn Executive Center in Columbia.
Kevin Bradley, associate professor of plant science in the MU College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, says there has been a lot of interest in cover crops recently and people are looking for more information about them.
The conference also will include sessions on weather, weed and pest management, soil fertility, and nutrient management, Bradley says.
Allen Featherstone, agricultural economist from Kansas State University, will give a keynote address looking at similarities between the recent increase in land values and those seen in the 1970s.
“We’re trying to make this the premier place to get our most up-to-date research-based recommendations,” Bradley says. “I think we’ve done that the last three or four years. We’ve seen the conference grow and attendees give it high marks.”
Bradley says they have also seen more farmers attending the conference in addition to the more traditional audience of crop consultants and retailers. The conference provides a tremendous amount of information in a very short period for a reasonable cost, he says.
Enrollment in the MU Crop Management Conference is $160 for the full conference or $105 for one day. Registration covers meals, handouts and admission to the concurrent MO-AG Winter Convention and Trade Show. There will be a $25 late fee for registrations received after Dec. 10.
