History: My dad Neal worked in the grocery business and as a plumber in Tulsa, Okla., before he returned to Morrow, Ark. Back then most everyone had cows and chickens. He built a few chicken houses doing the plumbing and electrical work. He was going to build his own chicken houses, but God saved him from the chicken business because the bank wouldn’t give him a loan. Consequently he bought a little store in town which became the country general store with a couple of gas pumps and a post office inside, as well as a location for his plumbing, heating and air-conditioning business. I learned from my father and bought the plumbing business 22 years ago and the country store six years ago.”
Services: “We run both businesses out of the same location. Morrow Country Store has food items as well as nails, plumbing materials, hardware, automotive supplies and other supplies people want so they don’t have to drive into Fayetteville, Ark. We’ve got some really great customers who want to see the place stay open and support us. We’ve got people who come in early every day for breakfast or coffee while giving me advice.
Originally the other side of the business was 80 to 90 percent agricultural, now that percentage is down to 20 percent. We do mostly commercial work in a wide area that includes Bella Vista, Little Rock and Tulsa. In order to make both businesses work, you have to have really good help and we’ve got it. We know our customers by name and give them high quality in return for their money.”
