Oklahoma State University students have donated more than 180,000 hours of volunteer work to the OSU Campus and the Stillwater community since Campuslink began tracking the hours two and a half years ago. That contribution is being recognized during National Volunteer Week, April 21-27.

“We are proud of the respect and compassion our student servant leaders have shown for humanity” said Joyce Montgomery, coordinator of the Service-Learning Volunteer Center at 211G Student Union. “Through collaborative efforts, these engaged students are making a huge difference in our community.” 

The student volunteers make a dramatic difference in the lives of medical patients, employees, and community and under-served citizens each and every day. Volunteers help out the hospital, library, museums, nursing homes, homeowners, businesses, City of Stillwater and its programs, public schools, medical foundations in various important ways. 

OSU student volunteers also raise money for important projects with a dance marathon, Gator Fest and Varsity Review for St. Jude Hospital. Relay for Life and Coaches vs. Cancer provide funding for cancer research. Students are setting benchmarks for success in education and fighting disease. 

Major volunteer programs/projects include:

—    Multiple food drives, clothing drives and fundraising efforts throughout the school year

—    First Aid Training for students, faculty and staff

—    Big Brothers/Big Sisters mentoring and fundraising

—    Mobile meals delivery and programs for the elderly

—    Prevention programming and facilitation

—    Medical facilitation programs

—    Habitat for Humanity housing and student education through Shack-A-Thon

—    Campus and Community development, beautification and cleanup programs

—    Oversight for targeted state client-based services

—    Youth coaching and mentoring

—    Environmental service and education

—    Literacy and language programs for campus and community

—    Overseas development, health and education programs

—    Campus education and facilitation programs

—    Campus research and innovation programs

__    Community Service Work days such as Big Event and Into the Streets
