Director of Agriculture Dr. Jon Hagler will visit Montelle Winery in Augusta Friday morning to present Missouri’s second annual C.V. Riley Award for the state’s best Norton. Montelle Winery’s Norton was selected to receive the award during Missouri’s 2012 Governor’s Cup wine competition.
Tony and Cindy Kooyumjian, owners of Montelle Winery, will accept the award from Director Hagler and Missouri Wine and Grape Board Executive Director Jim Anderson. Tony Kooyumjian also serves as Montelle Winery’s winemaker. Facility tours will be available following the presentation.
The award was established by the Missouri Wine and Grape Board in 2011 to honor C.V. Riley, Missouri’s first state-appointed entomologist. Riley is credited for salvaging the French wine industry with his Phylloxera resistant rootstock in the late 1800s.
