The Oklahoma State University’s Interfraternity Council, Multicultural Greek Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council and Panhellenic Council attended the Central Fraternal Leadership and National Black Greek Leadership Conference hosted by the Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values in Indianapolis, Indiana from February 7-10.
The Interfraternity Council (IFC), which is part of the IFC Division III for schools with 13- 20 men’s chapters, received recognition in six of the eight award categories: Academic Achievement, Membership Recruitment, Philanthropy & Community Service, Public Relations, Risk Reduction and Management, and Self Governance and Judicial Affairs. Oklahoma State’s IFC won the Jellison Award for being the top Interfraternity Council in their particular division for the region.
Evan Frejo, current Interfraternity Council President, and former treasurer was able to see his hard work from last year pay off.
“Up to this point I have had such a strong belief in our Greek community and everything that we do as a whole,” Frejo said. “Knowing that we were always defining our own success and what it meant to us has been rewarding in and of itself each year. However, knowing that our hard work, dedication, perseverance, and resilience has all come together to finally pay off for the greater good has left me with a feeling of great pride and optimism about leading this community.”
The Multicultural Greek Council, was also recognized for their accomplishments in Academic Achievement, Community Service, and Council Management.
The Panhellenic Council, a part of the Panhellenic Division III for schools with 8 to 12 women’s chapters, received recognition in all eight possible award categories: Academic Achievement, Council Management, Leadership and Educational Development, Membership Recruitment, Philanthropy and Community Service, Public Relations, Risk Reduction and Management, and Self-Governance and Judicial Affairs. This year, the Panhellenic Council came home with the Sutherland Award, which is the top award given to a Panhellenic Council in the region for each division.
“This year the fraternity and sorority community of OSU reached a milestone,” said Liz Osborne, the Coordinator of Fraternity & Sorority Affairs. “For the first time, the Interfraternity Council received the Jellison Award in Division III. The Panhellenic Council received the Sutherland Award for the third time in four years, also in Division III. The Office of Fraternity & Sorority Affairs could not be more proud of the student leaders and the community for this accomplishment. However, I look forward to the rest of 2013 as the students press forward toward receiving this recognition again.”
OSU’s entire fraternity and sorority community was also recognized with the Gamma Sigma Alpha Awards for the Spring 2012 and Fall 2012 semesters for having the highest differential between the All Greek GPA and the All Non-Greek GPA in the Midwest Region. OSU’s Greek Community has received this honor 16 times since 2004.
