As you may remember in my last column I wrote about the power of grandma’s apple pie. The first thing my grandma said to me on Christmas was, “ I loved your last column,” which I kind of figured she would.
Going on with my Christmas festivities I didn’t think anything more about the famous apple pie until it was time to eat dessert. As I excused myself from the table to get a piece of apple pie, my aunt Rachel told me, “There is no apple pie. Everyone thought it would be best if grandma didn’t have to make so many pies so we pitched in to make pies but must have overlooked the apple.”
I was crushed. The thought of no apple pie on Christmas just isn’t right.
Then, much to my surprise, my little sister comes walking up behind me and places a piece of apple pie on the table in front of me. Confusion – I think was the word plainly written across my face. I didn’t see any apple pies in the kitchen – where did this come from?
Turns out my entire family, (mom, dad, aunts, uncles, grandpa and yes, grandma) conspired against me to hide grandma’s apple pies. I guess that’ll teach me not to write about “family matters” in my column.
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas filled with priceless memories and may 2013 grace you with many blessings and hopefully, with a lot more rain than last year.
It’s true what they say that the years fly by faster as you get older. It feels like just yesterday I was writing the first column of 2012. Here’s to a new year.
Best wishes,
