Aurora Agri-Center and Monett Agri-Center

Owner:  Gerald Doennig
Location:  Aurora, and Monett, Mo.

History:  Lawrence County native Gerald Doennig has spent over 40 years in the feed industry. Gerald bought the Aurora Agri-Center in 1982. Then he bought the Monett Agri-Center in 1995.
“Before I opened the Aurora Agri-Center, I spent 10 years with a major feed manufacturing company. I went as far as I could with them. But I always wanted to own my own business, so when this opportunity presented itself I took a chance,” explained Gerald.

Products:  “Basically we offer bulk and bag feed, pet supplies, pet food, lawn and garden supplies, and hardware. Over the years we have expanded the pet food and lawn and garden section tremendously.” The bulk feed is delivered within a 25-30 mile radius of both store locations.

What are your tips for sucess?
“Owning a business is not a 40-hour a week job. You don’t push a time clock. You have to stay organized, committed and consistent. I’ve stayed with most of my suppliers and distributors most of 30 years. Plus, you’ve got to be willing to change; I’ve caught my self over the years not wanting to make changes, which isn’t always best.
“My employees are the best. I give them responsibility, authority and reportability. All three go hand-in-hand,” shared Gerald.
