Darrell Proctor

Family:  Wife, Danette and two children, Darren and Dawn

In town:  Darrell Proctor and his wife, Danette, of Springfield, Greene County, own and operate D-4 Investments, a successful residential and commercial rental property company. The Proctors created the company in 1974 and today, D-4 Investments owns 55 rental properties. The properties consist of both real estate and vacant land. Darrell is in charge of maintenance, building and property management. “We build all of our own rental properties,” he said. For 33 years, the Proctors were also co-owners of PJC Insurance. They sold their share of the company in 2001.

In the Country:  Darrell runs a herd of about 30 head of beef cattle on some of his Greene County property. He owns a registered Polled Hereford bull, but the rest of his colorful herd are mixed breeds. “I call ‘em registered rainbows,” he chuckled. His momma cows will begin calving in September. The cattle require daily maintenance, especially in the summer heat. “Weather plays a big factor in the livestock,” Darrell said. He makes sure to keep his bovines supplied with plenty of feed, minerals and all the water they can drink. When Darrell is not tending to his herd, he can be found feeding round bales and doing maintenance work at his daughter’s riding stables.

Best time management tip:  “Make a list of things that need immediate attention,” Darrell said. “When you start the morning, everybody has the same amount of time and it’s easy to get sidetracked. A list keeps you focused on your objective for the day.”
