Britain’s Feed Store
Owner: Pat Britain
General Manager: Mike Britain
Location: Lawrenceburg, Mo.
History: For the past 66 years Britain’s Feed has been a necessity for local farms in Lawrence County. “My dad, Bill, bought the store from his brother-in-law in 1946. I took over in the mid ‘70s when dad semi-retired. And my grandfather had a water-powered mill at 96 Highway and Turnback. There is a replica of the mill there now. Some of the equipment displayed at the College of the Ozarks came from my grandfather’s mill,” said Pat.
Products and Services: “The main products that keep us here are bulk feed and fertilizer. We deliver and spray fertilizer. We also have gas, groceries and farm supplies. We are one of few country stores left,” explained Pat. Britain’s Feed is an ADM, Tindle and Crescent supplier.
What do you do when you’re not at the feed store?
When Pat is not at the store he can be found farming. “I have 180 cows right now. I don’t keep too many heifers so calving ease is good. I meet myself coming and going. In the winter someone helps me feed and in the summer someone bales my hay so I can fulfill my duties at the store,” said Pat.
Future Plans: “Eventually I want to retire. I just don’t know when that will be,” concluded Pat.
