Roger and Brittaney Ashlock

In town:  For the past 10 years Roger Ashlock of Dunnegan, Mo., has been found working at Ozarks Coca-Cola. Roger is an account manager and drives an average of 200 miles a day all across the Ozarks. His wife, Brittaney, is a registered nurse in the critical care unit at both St. Johns and Cox Hospitals in Springfield, Mo.

In the Country:  Roger and Brittaney both grew up on family farms in Polk County. Now the couple owns a 40-acre farm where they run a small herd of momma cows and seven Quarter Horses. To be as sustainable as the couple can, Brittaney also gardens and cans the produce she grows.

Ranch Sorting:  One unique activity found on the Ashlock farm is Ranch Sorting, a competition consisting of a two-man team on horseback. The team has 60 seconds to sort a pen of cattle. Roger can be found competing in Ranch Sorting every other weekend throughout Missouri and Kansas. Although, Brittaney doesn’t compete she attends the sortings to support her husband. “Ranch sorting is the perfect way to combine my love of horses and cattle. Plus, I get to meet new people and build relationships,” explained Roger.

Making it all work:  “If you love it you will find time. I work three to four days a week so I have the rest of the week to help out on the farm,” said Brittaney. Roger agreed with his wife, “You make time.”
