In Town: “My husband, Jim, and I have worked in Poteau, Okla., for 10 years. I sell farm and ranch equipment, feed, seed and fertilizer. I like the friendly people and getting to visit with our area farmers. I just like getting to know everyone. My town life also involves my personal life because I do most of my shopping here in Poteau too. Town life supplies the practical part of my life. ”
In the Country: “We live on a 23-acre farm in Wister, Okla. We raise registered Boer goats and Quarter Horses. The goats are a new activity for us. We started because of a good market with a demand for show quality goats. We sell mostly to 4-H and FFA kids. We also have registered paint Quarter Horses. Unfortunately there no longer is a market for the babies so they have become family pets. Right now we are too busy to trail ride but will when we have time, which we hope is in the near future. We also have a donkey named Paco. He likes to follow us around wherever we go. When he finds stuff like a halter in the fields, he’ll bring it to the house. He also loves cookies, especially iced oatmeal cookies.”
How do your town and country lives blend?
“Town and country living work well for us. I’m always at work where I can pick up feed, medicines and supplies. Also, my knowledge of animals lets me help my customers. Finally, if I need something for home, I’m already here, which works out very well. Then I can go home and relax and enjoy my animals and our country life.”
