Name:  Kyle Thornsberry, age 16
Parents:  Jason and Shelly Thornsberry
Hometown:  Crocker, Mo.
School:  Crocker High School

How did you get started in agriculture?
“I never lived on a farm, though we have a garden. Once I got to high school, I learned about and got involved in non-traditional agriculture such as greenhouses and agricultural mechanics.”

What is your current involvement in agriculture?
“I have my own garden at home and sell to the community. I have my own tame blackberry patch that produces blackberries that are about thumb-sized. This year I sold mostly blackberries, peppers, squash and zucchini. I also show produce and my own canned products, especially apple and pear pie fillings, and I love to make my own bread. I am currently president of 4-H and teach younger kids how to work with tools, which can be a challenge sometimes. I am also treasurer of our local FFA chapter.”

Who has been the greatest influence on your life?
“Before I started ag classes I didn’t have any idea of what I wanted to do and didn’t think about it much. Then Mr. Shroer became my ag teacher and everything started to change. Learning was more fun, and I was able to think about different possibilities and then narrow them down so I can start really focusing on what might be the best choice for me.”
