Chastain Feed
Owner: Bo Chastain
Location: Crane, Mo.
Products: Bulk feed formulated to meet each individual farmer’s need along with ready to feed convenience bags. Also a dealer for Up North Plastics with bags, bunker covers and bale wrap.
Company History: Started in 1990, Bo and his father, Gary began mixing and selling their own formula to local farmers in the dairy business. Going full time in 1997, Bo now owns the business while Gary serves in an advisory position.
What makes Chastain Feed unique: Knowing what the needs of local farmer are, with both dairy and beef cattle in the community. He recently started selling his own Super 16 pellet formula and also Super 16 Pellet range cubes in bulk and in bags. Both the dairy farmer and the beef cattle operations are met with the protein formula.
Business Phiolosphy: Keeping overhead low and costs reined in. Two employees have been with them since the birth of the business, having been in school with Scott and John was his milk hand.
Forward Thinking: Identifying the local needs and finding ways to adapt while bringing an economical option to feed beef and dairy herds alike. “You got to enjoy what you do or else I wouldn’t be doing this.” Bo grinned.
