How are you involved in agricuture?
Fourteen-year-old Dalton Steele has been involved in 4-H for several years, showing goats in the past, and currently showing bulls.
What do you enjoy the most within the program?
For the previous three years, Dalton has shown goats. This is his first year showing bulls and next year, Dalton plans to show heifers.
Dalton enjoys working with the bulls, and says that it is fun to “break them”. He didn’t enjoy working with goats as well, admitting, “they die too much,” due to the animal’s ability to become sick often due to the climate. Dalton goes on to say that he enjoys working with Red Hill Angus and the J-Bar H. He is also a second year archery participant within 4-H. He said he is grateful for the opportunities that are provided within the 4-H program.
How have you done at shows?
Dalton said he won many 2nd place ribbons while showing goats. He went on to say that at Barry County, Lawrence County and Ash Grove fairs, he won two Grand Champion awards as well as one Grand Champion reserve ribbon.
In regards to this year, Dalton has shown four bulls. He won three Division Champion awards and one Reserve Division Champion.
Dalton’s archery group did well at the nationals in Louisville, Ky., taking home 37th place out of thousands of participants. The 4-H group was proud to have placed so well, within such a large group of competitors.
